How Ratings & Reviews Work

Ratings and reviews help build trust on CardNexus. Learn how the double-blind review system works and what happens after every completed order.

Why Double-Blind?

On most platforms, whoever reviews first is exposed โ€” the other party can see the review before writing theirs. This leads to problems:

  • Retaliation โ€” leaving a bad review because you got one

  • Reciprocation โ€” inflating your review hoping for a good one back

  • Gaming the timing โ€” waiting to see the other person's review first

CardNexus prevents all of this. Reviews stay hidden until both are in, encouraging honest feedback.

The Review Window

After an order reaches a final status (completed, dispute resolved, etc.), a 7-day review window opens for both parties.

What happens

When

When the order reaches a final status

Both parties submit

Reviews are revealed immediately

Only one party submits

The other's review is auto-generated at the deadline (see below)

Neither party submits

Both reviews are auto-generated at the deadline

7 days after the order reaches its final status

You'll receive a notification when the review window opens, reminding you to leave your feedback. You can submit your review anytime within the 7-day window.

What You Rate

Buyers and sellers rate different things, reflecting their different roles in the transaction.

Buyers Rate Sellers on 3 Dimensions

Category

What it measures

Accuracy

Did the card match the listing? (condition, edition, language, etc.)

Packaging

Was the card packaged well and protected during shipping?

Communication

Was the seller responsive and helpful?

Each category is rated on a 1โ€“5 star scale. You can also leave an optional text comment.

The seller's overall rating is the average of these three scores.

Sellers Rate Buyers

Sellers give buyers a single overall rating on a 1โ€“5 star scale, plus an optional comment. This covers things like: Was the buyer reasonable? Did they communicate well if there were issues?

What If You Don't Submit a Review?

If the 7-day window passes and you haven't submitted your review, an automatic 5-star review is generated on your behalf โ€” with no comment.

This works the same way for both sides:

  • Buyer doesn't review โ€” the seller gets an auto-generated 5-star rating (5 for accuracy, packaging, and communication)

  • Seller doesn't review โ€” the buyer gets an auto-generated 5-star rating

The auto-generated review assumes good faith โ€” if nobody complained, the transaction presumably went well. But if you want your feedback to count, make sure to submit your review within the 7-day window.

When Are Reviews Revealed?

Reviews become visible to both parties when one of these happens first:

  1. Both parties submit their reviews โ€” instant reveal

  2. The 7-day deadline passes โ€” any missing reviews are auto-filled, then all reviews are revealed

Until that moment, your review is stored but completely hidden from the other party.

Reviews Are Final

Once you submit a review, it cannot be edited or deleted. This ensures authenticity โ€” nobody can change their review after seeing what the other party wrote.

Think carefully before submitting. Your review will be visible on the other party's profile permanently.

Where Do Ratings Appear?

  • Seller profiles show their overall rating, total number of reviews, and a breakdown by accuracy, packaging, and communication

  • Buyer profiles show their overall rating and total number of reviews

  • Ratings are visible to anyone browsing the marketplace, helping buyers find trustworthy sellers and sellers identify reliable buyers
